That Wonderful Christmas belly…

Christmas, birthdays, holidays and important events are times in which you are supposed to have fun.

Is watching every morsel that you eat fun?  Not for me it isn’t.

After Christmas my jeans are always a little tight and my brain is a little foggy.  I live Christmas like it might be my last!  If you saw the amount of cheese and chocolate I get through you would question my nutritional education.  I eat my mums homemade cake in absurdly large slices and my mince pies drown alongside cream and brandy butter.  Yes, I feel a little nauseous and yes my body can tell it is not performing optimally but life is all about balance.  For me, I have no allergies or diagnosed conditions, these foods do not cause a reaction so I eat what I want and I enjoy the hell out of it…..then I jump straight back into eating the way I normally do.

That post indulgence feeling is not the feeling that you need to avoid.  What really needs your attention is the daily comfort at consuming frankenstein foods with little to no nourishment.  The fact that you have possibly got used to that feeling of lethargy and no mojo is a real concern.  Low fibre, low protein, low vegetables and a bland coloured plate for 330 days of the year deserves more attention than your 1-2 week indulgence.

You do not need a juice detox or a HIIT challenge or 100 burpees every morning or skinny tea or weight loss tablets or 500 kcal diets or or or or or!

I am yet to find anything that promises instant results with true long term success.

I know we live in a world with everything at our fingertips but your optimum body is not possible for ‘next day delivery’.  However, every quality choice, every healthy addition, every ‘no’, adds up to huge results.

2 weeks of really quite shocking eating did not really change my body.  2 weeks of you eating healthily will not really change your body.  2 months would affect both respectively.  2 years would be unrecognisable in both.

You don’t need to be drastic or move mountains.  Learn what you can, action it (even if it is hard) and this beautiful thing will happen.  You will shine brighter than you thought possible.

So this post is to say….less guilt after enjoying yourself and more focus on the day to day choices you make.  If you want to invoke real change in your health, weight, energy, confidence, etc then:

  • drink more water
  • go for more walks
  • eat a big plate of colourful vegetables every day
  • do some sort of strength training
  • talk kindly to yourself
  • aim for 8 hrs sleep
  • focus on protein rich foods

…and tune into your intuition.  It knows when something seems too good to be true.

You got this.

Thanks for stopping by

Until Next Time
